5 Things You Should Know This Week in Ferndale

  1. Cooler temperatures will continue throughout the week, with a high of 77, a low of 57 and a chance of showers forecast Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. Work will begin on the south side of West Nine Mile Road beginning with traffic shifting sides Tuesday or Wednesday; removal of sidewalks and curbs will follow by the end of the week as part of the How the West Was One project. Parking on the south side of West Nine, between Planavon and Farmdale, as well as on the north side just east of Planavon, will reopen.
  3. Peteet's Famous Cheesecakes at 13835 Nine Mile Road in Oak Park will give away free slices of cheesecake to the first 150 customers starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, in honor National Cheesecake Day. (True, this isn't in Ferndale; but for free cheesecake, we can make an exception, right?)
  4. Rosie O'Grady's in Ferndale will host a "Thrift Shop Fashion Show" fundraiser for the South Oakland Shelter at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30. Admission is a donation of $5 or gently used clothing.
  5. St. James church in Ferndale will hold it annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
