Save Room for Ferndale Restaurant Week

More than 20 eateries will participate in the inaugural event Oct. 7-13.

Downtown Ferndale will do what it does best – be a gracious host – the week of October 7-13 for the first ever Ferndale Restaurant Week.  With more than 20 of the district’s fabulous dining destinations offering three fixed prices, guests will have ample and affordable opportunities to sample everything from Cajun cooking, extraordinary “bar” food and one-of-a-kind American dishes to worldwide cuisines and scrumptious desserts.

“Ferndale Restaurant Week is designed to showcase the diversity of choices in Downtown Ferndale,” said Cristina Sheppard-Decius, Executive Director of the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority which is organizing the promotion.  “We already know and enjoy the amazing cuisine here.  We thought it was time to invite everyone else to the table.”

With so many restaurants involved, Ferndale Restaurant Week offers more variety than the average restaurant week.  Restaurants can choose to offer a $10, $20 or $30 prix fixe and can offer it for breakfast, lunch and/or diner, as they deem best for their establishment and their clientele.  Also, the menu choice can be for one or two people.

Besides being able to choose from a variety of ambiance and menu choices, visitors will also have an opportunity to enjoy the “The ART Part,” a competition among select artists for a $10,000 prize that concludes with a post-restaurant week art auction to fund the launch of “The Art Part” scholarship.

Ferndale Restaurant Week Chairperson Beth Hussey of One-Eyed Betty’s brought in “The ART Part” to reflect two of Downtown Ferndale’s most engaging characteristics – a desire to see and support art, and a drive to support the community.   Selected artwork will be hung in participating restaurants and will be featured on the Ferndale Restaurant Week Facebook page where a public vote will determine a winner.

Following restaurant week, the art will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund and the contributing artist.

“The Art Part is a logical addition to the menu,” said Sheppard-Decius. “Art is a huge component of our downtown and our consumers expect to have some kind of creative experience when they visit.   This is the perfect combo.”
