The two sources of school funding are linked, for the reasons you've laid out. Decreases in tax based finding pushes more financial responsibility onto fund raising efforts. What was formerly funded by tax and was a baseline for education is now partially privatized by fund raising.
Because of a structural lapse in the accountability of private funding, the baseline educational resources can be compromised by theft, for example.
So- when there inefficient use of any money brings the return on our tax investment into question. Why bother throwing more money at a fiscally irresponsible organization? They have already administratively failed.
Additionally- this situation is poor marketing of Royal Oak to potential homeowners and their children, which in turn decreases property values and further erodes the number of students as well as per student funding.

ReplyThat whole area is a mess. I have to cross it on my commute of only a few miles and spend more than half of my commute time sitting there. Seems like a great place for a traffic circle, and maybe a train station in the middle!

If a good person does a bad thing- they cease to be a good person. Your rebuttal is unnecessarily combative and lacks substance. It's an issue of perspective. I am fine with you living your life as a victim and teaching your kids to do the same. I choose not to. Do you have any other Will Farrell movie quotes to support your well thought out and mature position?

ReplyAfter reading the comments made by the students in this thread, I am seriously considering private school for my child. The flaws in grammar, spelling and critical thinking are disappointing. Furthermore, it seems that the ethos of the students is to accept this crime against them, and defend the accused. I don't want my daughter institutionalized to tolerate crimes against her because they were perpetrated by an authority figure (allegedly).

ReplyMy first thought was fracking, there is a oil/gas injection well in Ferndale. Which still doesn't explain the flash of light.

Replybefore the parking lot crime was @ LA Fitness, it was @ the YMCA. The neighborhood isn't ruined. Relax. And- to imply that wallets being stolen from cars indicates a drug problem @ the gym is absurd. Check into reality once in a while.

ReplyOn the topic of your Grammar, this caught my attention from your bio.
"Cut funding is an issue both the city and school district face."
I believe that it should read:

As far as I know, the site on Crooks and Normandy is occupied. The former board of Ed building is at 13 and Marais, and currently for sale by ROPS. The parcel of land is several acres (7, I think) and is adjacent to Total Soccer and the athletic fields of the high school. Which site has the proposed redevelopment?
