On the article How Are School-Closing Decisions Made in Rochester?

ReplyThese people making the call - they are doing their best. Whatever decision they make - they are going to have people thinking they didn't do it right. I would like to see parents supporting the school district with whatever decision they make on a particular day. Sure - it's inconvenient. Snowy days are just that. But we have to expect things like this to happen. We are only talking a few days out of the year usually. I hate to see people jump all over the administration - they are not fortune-tellers - sometimes the weather changes despite best intelligence.

ReplyKaren - it is very cliche for people to bash Christianity and patriotism and call it "Nazi" as well as "racist". The reference to "it was once Christian culture to cover up child molesters" is so completely offensive. That was never Christian culture. That was just pure evil, which exists everywhere, and does not represent Christianity in any way, shape, or form. It would be nice to see some constructive criticism of your article instead of hatred spewed with the cliche's mentioned above. Again - thanks for writing this.

ReplyI have been trying to teach my kids about money. Instead of saying, "We can't afford that," I phrase it differently. I say, "God gives us a certain amount of money, and he expects us to be good stewards of it. (Insert toy here) is not a good use of our money right now." I also have, at times, went on to explain that some people are entrusted with more money than us, and some less. My kids are still young, but I'm hoping to take the emotion out of wanting something and not being able to afford it. I never want my kids to feel "poor" if we can't afford something they want. I want them to recognize that some things we can buy and some things we can't, plain and simple. Some people have more, some less. I am hoping to teach them that we are really "rich" in what we have already. I'm hoping I can do this.

ReplyIf the principal called in this girl, she obviously was not appropriately dressed. I think the teachers and administrators need the power in the schools to run it appropriately, and they need to be supported by the parents, even in a case like this where the parents obviously thought their daughter was dressed OK (as they let her leave the house like this). If the principal did say what the daughter is accusing her of saying, that's not OK. But driving around like that with a trailer is so awful and disrespectful. Not understanding why the parents aren't talking to the principal in private. So now the dad is being totally disrespectful to this principal - and putting on a horrible example for his daughter.
