Viewfinder: If You Know Ferndale, Then Where Were These Taken?

Ferndale Patch went around town and snapped a few photos. Can you identify these locations?

Ferndale Patch took 12 photos from around town. These 12 photos need a location. But we're not going to tell you. You tell us! In the comments section below, tell us where you think each photo was taken. The person with the most right will get a high five and congratulations. Next week we'll do the same thing (and try to think of better prizes!).

Viewfinder: Stairway to Ferndale

A week in pictures.

Over the past week, we've seen a lot of rain. Buckets and buckets of rain. But, other things have happened. Here are a few things from my viewfinder of the city. I saw the Valentine Vodka Martini Bar open up, a show at Hybrid Moments, and the Leaning Towner of Pisa in the Mobil gas station parking lot. I also saw a gross bug.

Viewfinder: No Sleep 'Til Ferndale

Sometimes you just don't want to use the camera-camera, so you use a camera-phone.

A very small part of me felt like this guy here when I saw the rainbow over Ferndale on Sunday. Unfortunately it wasn't a double rainbow all the way. It was just a single rainbow all the way, which was still pretty cool ... for a second. Beyond the rainbow, there was art at the Emory and 14 other establishments throughout Ferndale as part of Saturday's Art Walk, which put on display more than 1,000 pieces of art from Ferndale schools. It also rained yesterday, someone found a dog and the trees were a-bloomin'.

I'll carry around my umbrella if I see overcast skies and it never rains. Every time I forget it in my car, stuff like that happens -- crazy downpours.   more ›

Viewfinder: Inside the Rust Belt Market

Ferndale Patch goes inside a newly leased building where the Rust Belt Market is setting up shop.

On Tuesday, Tiffany and Chris Best held an open house for the Rust Belt Market, an artists' market and incubator that will live in the former Old Navy building at 22801 Woodward Ave. The space on this Monday was open, empty and full of energy. Tiffany Best said they are working to get it put together and hope to be fully operational soon, adding that she is getting applications every day. So here's a super early sneak peak at what the inside of the place looks like as of this week.

Viewfinder: The Good and the Fire of the Assembly Line Concert

Ferndale Patch finds the Green all around town.

Last Saturday AJ's Music Cafe kicked off its attempt to break the world record for longest concert by playing continuous live music for 360 hours. The Assembly Line concert was going off as planned until a small electrical fire started at 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. The fire pushed everyone outside and the concert continued without skipping a beat (pun intended!). At approximately noon Tuesday, the electricity was restored and the concert moved back indoors. The Assembly Line concert continues until April 3.

Viewfinder: 'Oklahoma!', Taste of Ferndale and Paczki at Rosie's

Ferndale Patch goes to town and shares the happenings in pictures.

It was a doozey this week in Ferndale. Ferndale Middle School and High School students had a dress rehearsal for Oklahoma! and it was looking pretty good. It opens Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for adults $6; seniors and students $4; and children under 12 $3. Then, on Fat Tuesday, the Ferndale Community Foundation held it's annual Taste of Ferndale that brought the community together and showcased some of the great eats the city has to offer. More importantly, said Dan Martin, president of the foundation, people came out to see the city and the sense of community that exists here. And, finally, also on Fat Tuesday, Rosie O'Grady's had a paczki-eating contest and it was gross! Just kidding, it was awesome and a lot of paczki were consumed. …

Viewfinder: Good News, Bad News and the Pistons Mascot

A week of photos around town.

A lot of things happened this past week that was good, bad and pretty cool. The bad news was the Strawberry Moon Bakery closed for good Feb. 12 after nearly five years of business on the corner of Allen and West Nine Mile. Owner Jon Glab said that they weren't making any money because of the recession and just couldn't do it anymore. The corner bakery/sandwich/pizza joint will be missed. Good news is that Ferndale's new mayor, Dave Coulter, was sworn in, holding a receptions that brought five former mayors under one roof. Also, AJ's Music Cafe held the event Operation Valentine's Day that collected everyday items for the troops over seas. Finally, the pretty cool news: The Pistons held a motivational assembly at Roosevelt Primary where …
