The 2012 Ferndale Blues and Music Festival kicked off this weekend and festival co-chair Craig Covey said the event is off to a great start "It's going really well," Covey said Saturday night. "There's lots of good music all over the place." Taking a break from a full crowd at Como's, where he was about to go on stage to introduce Howard Glazer and the EL 34s, Covey said he tries to attend events each day of the nine-day festival and frequently visits Como's. "I always end up here at some point," said Covey, the former Ferndale mayor and current Oakland County commissioner. The Ferndale Blues & Music Festival – more than 60 concerts over nine days at two dozen locations – begins Friday. Here's what you need to know before you go: First things first: You'll need to know which bands are playing when. Check out the complete schedule here. For events where the time is not yet listed, be sure to call the venue in advance to confirm details. A shuttle will operate during both Saturday nights of the festival. The shuttle bus will run between all of the venues. Blood donations are in high demand and the Gerry Kulick Community Center is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday. Head over between 12:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and join the Red Cross in its mission to maintain a safe and stable blood supply. The Ferndale City Council meets tonight.
