Ferndale City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 11 at Ferndale City Hall. Included on council's agenda is a presentation on the new parking system. Council voted Feb. 25 to order more pay stations and extend free parking through March 11 so the city could work to address problems with the system. Last week, the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority announced they will recommend that council roll back parking rates and enforcement hours. Also included on the agenda is a public hearing for a small wine maker license, appointments to the DDA, consideration of an "Earth Hour," an ordinance on alcohol in public places and more. Ferndale City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Ferndale City Hall. Included on council's agenda are possible parking rate changes. The city is currently working with the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority to modernize its parking system, which includes the new multi-space parking meter system which allows for flexibility in rates and payments. At Monday's meetings, council will consider new rates based on parking priority areas. The city's current parking rate is 50 cents per hour. The new recommended rate is $1 per hour for on-street parking, 75 cents an hour in most lots, 50 cents an hour in Lot#1, and $1 per hour in all lots after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I agree 100% with Easydude. Also, I could care less about spending money on new parking meters (they're going to do whatever they want anyway) just MAKE SURE they take quarters. Don't ask me to get out my smart phone, walk to a kiosk or use my credit card just because I need to run into Radio Shack for 15 minutes.
