Nominations are now being accepted for the Ferndale Public Schools 2012-13 Teacher and Employee of the Year Awards. Applications are due by Jan. 30. You can download the application here. The district will honor two people from each school building or site as Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year. All employees are eligible and nominations can be submitted by anyone, including colleagues, parents, and community members. Derek Adams, a Spanish teacher at Ferndale Middle School who was recently awarded a free one-year auto lease from Suburban Buick GMC of Ferndale, picked up his new car on Friday. Adams, who drove away with his wife Kari in a 2012 GMC Terrain, was chosen during the district's annual staff recognition ceremony after the Suburban Collection announced it would draw a name among the three District Teachers of the Year and award that teacher with a free car lease. As staff were being honored on Friday afternoon as part of the district's annual recognition ceremony in the Ferndale High School auditorium, a special surprise was in the works for one lucky teacher. Suburban Buick GMC of Ferndale announced at the ceremony that they would randomly draw a name among the three District Teachers of the Year and award that teacher with a free one-year auto lease.
