Rust Belt owners Chris and Tiffany Best announced the campaign on Feb. 20. A total of 346 people contributed to the campaign. The Rust Belt posted the following message on its Facebook page on Saturday: WE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE!! This is huge for us. This is a gate way. This is what was so necessary for our continued growth. I am fighting the urge to write a lengthy essay on the American dream and how it is still alive despite all the recent bleakness of the past 5 years. I will spare …

The Rust Belt Market's Kickstarter campaign to "live not by weekends alone" is more than half way to its $20,000 goal. The artisan market in Ferndale is seeking support to expand its business model to include a new 4,000-square-foot space inside the market to be used for weekday events. A closer look at one of the vendors you'll find this weekend at the Rust Belt Market.

The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale offers a unique experience for patrons as well as vendors. Each week, Patch will feature one artist to get a closer look at what they do. This week, we chat with Amy Duncan, founder of HenriettaHaus Coffee Roasters. Duncan, who lives in Wyandotte, has been at the Rust Belt since its third weekend open. Who are you and what do you do? My name is Amy Duncan and I am a coffee roaster, founder of HenriettaHaus and a hoarder of antique wood. How did you get your start? I was enjoying an Ethiopian coffee ceremony after a birthday dinner. They came out and waved coffee that they were roasting under my nose and it was at that exact moment I decided I wanted to roast my own coffee. My husband mentioned that to my …

Ferndale's Rust Belt Market Seeks Support for New Event Space

The artisan market wants to expand its business model to host events during the week in a 4,000-square-foot isolated space inside the market.

The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale announced Wednesday that it is seeking support to expand its business model to include a new space for weekday events. The artisan market, which opened in a 15,000-square-foot former Old Navy Outlet in May 2011, is home to 60 local artists every weekend. Rust Belt owners Chris and Tiffany Best said leasing such an "anchor" space in Ferndale at the corner of Nine Mile and Woodward but being closed five days out of the week has been somewhat of a business flaw. But opening the market during the week doesn't work either - artists need time to create things, many vendors also have day jobs, and there simply aren't enough weekday shoppers to make it work. The Bests are looking to change all that by building an …
