Roosevelt Primary School is hosting a Volunteer Expansion Night on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. This event is for parents and community members interested in learning specific ways to help local students learn and grow. There are specific stations that will be set up where participants will choose to rotate through and learn specific skills focused on School Improvement goals. The district is hoping to have more volunteers working one-on-one or in small groups helping students succeed. Light refreshments will be available. Information provided by Ferndale Public Schools.
Children at Roosevelt Primary participated in the school's annual celebration of Martin Luther King Day.
Students at Roosevelt Primary School participated in the school's ninth annual Peace Walk on Thursday in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The peace parade is a much-loved tradition at the school with students singing songs and carrying symbolic artwork through the halls before joining together in the gym for an assembly including speeches and music with Roosevelt music teacher Debbie Hillebrand. At the end of the assembly, the students were encouraged to repeat aloud: "I commit to showing peace by being kind to myself and others." "We're a very diverse school family," said Roosevelt principal Dina Rocheleau. "We're very big about focusing on being kind and learning about empathy. It's a very big part of our school culture."
