Will Right-to-Work Law Lead to Recall of Gov. Snyder?

A political expert said Michigan could be “ground zero for a recall vote” against Snyder in 2013.

Could the sudden passage of the highly controversial right-to-work legislation lead to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's name appearing on a statewide ballot for something other than his re-election campaign? One political expert thinks it's possible. Joshua Spivak, a senior fellow at Wagner College’s Hugh L. Trader Joe's Recalls Frozen Dinner

The product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the health officials in the U.S. and Canada said

For the third time this year, a Trader Joe's product has been recalled. U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Monday announced that Aliya’s Foods Limited, one of Trader Joe's producers, will recall boxes of the "Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice” line, the Huffington Post reported. Trader Joe’s has a store in Royal Oak (27880 Woodward Avenue). Aliya's will recall 4,865 pounds of frozen butter chicken and rice imported from Canada because the food may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product is sold in a 12.5-ounce box. Excedrin Returning to Stores Later This Year

Excedrin was part of recall by drugmaker Novartis in January, migraine and headache sufferers long for return of product to market.

Excedrin fans, rejoice! Since January, migraine and headache sufferers been waiting and hoping for Excedrin to return after it was part of a massive recall in January. Drugmaker Novartis told the Wall Street Journal that production has resumed on the recalled Excedrin products. They're expected to be back on store shelves as soon as this month. The Journal added that bottles of the recalled medication have been fetching more than $100 at sites like Amazon and eBay. Peanut Butter Is Recalled by Trader Joe’s Over Salmonella Concerns

If you have it, bring it back to the store for a full refund.

Trader Joe’s corporate officials say they are acting “out of an abundance of caution” and ordering the recall of one type of its house brand peanut butter over salmonella concerns. “Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter” should not be eaten, the Monrovia-based specialty grocery chain said. “We have no confirmed information that suggests this peanut butter is unsafe to eat,” the company stated. But the food should not be eaten “pending health-related inquiries.” The Food and Drug Administration posted the company’s voluntary recall on its web site but did not comment on the company’s statement. Check Your Refrigerator Shelves for Recalled Kroger Spinach

The grocery store chain asks customers in 15 states to return the product, because of possible listeria contamination.

The Kroger Co. is asking all Michigan customers, and those in 14 other states, to check their refrigerators for certain Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach 10-ounce packages, which are being recalled due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination. Pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems could suffer severe illness after eating listeria monocytogenes. According to an alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration, the product is supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods LLC, has UPC code 0001111091649 and a "best if used by" date of Sept. 16. Any opened or unopened products should not be consumed and should be returned by customers to their local Kroger store for a full refund or replacement. Spartan Stores Issues Voluntary Recall of Deli Products, Citing Listeria Concerns

The Michigan-based company supplies goods to a number of local stores, including one in Ferndale.

An extensive recall of goods was announced Thursday by Grand Rapids food distribution company Spartan Stores, which supplies pre-packaged foods to hundreds of supermarkets statewide. According to a release on the Food and Drug Administration website, the recall was issued voluntarily. The recall cites concerns of listeria contamination, although no reports of illness have been received. Additionally, Spartan Stores noted in a release that contamination had not been confirmed, and that the measure was "precautionary and is being initiated to ensure the highest degree of confidence to our customers." Kroger Recalls Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes

Kroger is recalling Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes for because they may contain soy. The supermarket chain is also making automated phone calls to inform customers about the recall.

Kroger stores are recalling certain Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes because they may contain soy protein. According to a release from Pinnacle Foods Group LLC, the parent company for Aunt Jemima, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy protein may run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product. Pinnacle issued the voluntary recall after it discovered "there may have been a potential cross-contact with product that contained soy protein being produced on the same equipment" according to the release. The company has no reports of illness, and the Food and Drug Administration has been made aware of this recall. Ground Turkey Being Recalled for Salmonella Concerns

Kroger and Honeysuckle brands are part of the voluntary callback since bacteria was found in a sample.

Approximately 185,000 pounds of ground turkey is being recalled after a sample showed a low level of salmonella infection. Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. of Springdale, AR, announced Sunday that it is recalling Honeysuckle White, Kroger and HEB brands of 85-percent-lean fresh ground turkey products due to possible contamination from Salmonella Heidelberg.  There are no known illnesses associated with the contamination, Cargill said in a press release.
