Hundreds Rally Outside Troy Marriott Before Romney Fundraiser Event

The presidential candidate is in town for a private event hosted by Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday night.

A crowd of about 200 people gathered Wednesday afternoon outside the Troy Marriott hotel on Big Beaver Road to rally in protest of visiting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney is in Troy for a private fundraiser hosted by Gov. Rick Snyder at the hotel. Protesters carried signs and waved at motorists along Big Beaver, many of whom were honking as they passed by. "We're here to support Barack Obama," said Jeff Klayo of Mt. Clemens, who attended the rally with two fellow UAW members. "He stands for the little guys... The working class." Liz Ratzloff of Ann Arbor attended the rally and wore the official "Pillamina" mascot costume for Planned Parenthood. "I'm here sporting Pillamina because Romney doesn't support low-cost …

WITH VIDEO: More Than 1,000 Protest Wisconsin Governor's Appearance in Troy

Teachers, union members and others chanted, marched and yelled at people arriving for a Republican dinner Tuesday at the San Marino Club, where Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin was to be a speaker.

More than 1,000 protesters chanted, marched and yelled as attendees arrived Tuesday evening for a Republican dinner at the San Marino Club in Troy. The 9th Congressional District Republican committee's Southeast Michigan Ronald Reagan Memorial Dinner 2012 was the event, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's appearance there was the draw for protesters. The crowd, estimated by Troy police to have reached about 1,300 people at one point, chanted "What do we want?" and an answering "Justice!" and "When do we want it?" "Now!" The protests, which started about 5 p.m. in advance of the 7 p.m. dinner program, stretched a whole block of Big Beaver Road. The Michigan chapter of the National Action Network headed by the Rev. VIDEO: Planned Parenthood Opens in Ferndale Amid Protest

Citizens for a Pro-Life Society hosted a protest of the new Planned Parenthood location, which opened today in Ferndale as Oakland County's first clinic location.

A new Planned Parenthood clinic opened at 9 a.m. today at 23338 Woodward Ave. in Ferndale, making it the organization's first location in Oakland County. While the clinic welcomed its first patients this morning, it also saw at least 30 protesters who stood outside the building and on the Woodward median in opposition to the organization. The picketers were from Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and said that although this location will not offer abortion, it will refer women seeking abortions to other providers. "This is a question of human rights and justice," Monica Migliorino Miller, director of the group, said of the abortion issue. Teachers Picket State Cuts at Woodward and Nine Mile

Ferndale teachers fear larger classrooms due to Gov. Snyder's proposed cuts to public education.

Scott Collins teaches social studies at University High School. He is the head coach of Ferndale High School's track team and the head coach for UHS's cross country team. He has been teaching for six years. He is the fourth generation public school teacher and has 19 teachers in his family. "Teachers are the lowest paid, highest educated professions in the United States," Collins said, standing at the northeast corner of Woodward and Nine Mile Road, holding a sign that said: "We Are The People, We Are The MEA." He, along with dozens of other teachers, mostly from Ferndale, picketed pending cuts to public education.
