Teachers, union members and others chanted, marched and yelled at people arriving for a Republican dinner Tuesday at the San Marino Club, where Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin was to be a speaker.
More than 1,000 protesters chanted, marched and yelled as attendees arrived Tuesday evening for a Republican dinner at the San Marino Club in Troy. The 9th Congressional District Republican committee's Southeast Michigan Ronald Reagan Memorial Dinner 2012 was the event, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's appearance there was the draw for protesters. The crowd, estimated by Troy police to have reached about 1,300 people at one point, chanted "What do we want?" and an answering "Justice!" and "When do we want it?" "Now!" The protests, which started about 5 p.m. in advance of the 7 p.m. dinner program, stretched a whole block of Big Beaver Road. The Michigan chapter of the National Action Network headed by the Rev. The Occupy Wall Street movement that also has a weeks-old presence in Detroit came to Ferndale on Friday.
The Occupy movement, an uprising against corporate economic greed and a movement has spread across the country, came to Ferndale on Friday. Protesters huddled in tight bouquets at the four corners of Nine Mile and Woodward, one of the busiest traffic intersections in Ferndale. Posters and picket signs sprouted like wildflowers among the clusters of people with messages demanding reform: “Corporations are not people,” “Wall Street Pimps.” “It is not about being left of center,” said Ferndale resident Emily Krol. “It’s about being American and human.” Krol, a graduate law student at Wayne State University, said she was getting the mail for her law firm when she said she was inspired to come and take part of a movement she referred to as “…

The national movement has moved to Woodward Avenue and Nine Mile Road as former Ferndale Mayor Craig Covey organizes protest.
The Occupy Wall Street movement is still going. It was 42 days ago, on Sept. 17, when Ad Busters, a reader-supported publication that encourages citizen activism and challenges the world's power structures, posted this. The movement, which began in New York, has since grown and spread throughout the country, including to Detroit. Occupy Detroit launched on Oct. 21, with protesters gathering and camping out in Detroit's Grand Circus Park – at Woodward and Park avenues. The protesters have expanded to various areas and issues of the city including rallies scheduled in front of DTE to "stop the shutoffs," a Detroit Department of Transportation rally and a demonstration in favor of green jobs at the Old Highland Park Ford Plant in Highland …

Group to meet at 4 p.m. at Spirit of Detroit statue in downtown Detroit.
Occupy Detroit, a grassroots group formed out of the national "Occupy Wall Street" movement, has planned a march in downtown Detroit today to coincide with other marches planned nationwide. Participants will gather at 4 p.m. today at the Spirit of Detroit statue at Jefferson and Woodward and will march together to Grand Circus Park at 6 p.m., according to the group's website. A forum post on the website says the group plans to occupy the area "indefinitely." The forum poster says it will be a peaceful demonstration. The "Occupy" movements seek political, social and economic change. Some of the Detroit-specific issues members of the group have mentioned on their website include, "housing foreclosures, basic lack of good food in Detroit (…
