New Aerial Arts Studio to Open in Ferndale

Agora Arts will offer aerial and music classes for students of all ages and experience levels.

A new aerial, music and creative arts studio is expected to open in Ferndale early next month. Agora Arts, located at 646 East 9 Mile Road in Ferndale, will open its doors April 8. The business will offer aerial and music classes for students of all ages and experience levels. The studio will feature classes in aerial silks, trapeze and lyra, as well as Kuratomi Shindo stretching, Tae Kwon Do, yoga, hooping and private and ensemble music instruction. Agora will be the first studio in southeast Michigan to of aerial classes for children, according to director Maria Bucco. New Sushi Restaurant Opens in Ferndale

Tokyo Sushi is now open at 1225 Woodward Heights in the former location of Pete's Place.

A new sushi restaurant is open in Ferndale in the former location of Pete's Place, which closed in late November. Tokyo Sushi is located at 1225 Woodward Heights and offers authentic Japanese and Thai cuisine for dine-in or carry out. It had its soft opening several weeks ago and is planning a grand opening party sometime in the near future. "I've been cooking for all my life," said owner and chef Chris Sayanthone. He says quality ingredients and excellent service are his focus. "We do our best to make our customers happy," he said. Tokyo Sushi has five other locations, including one in Royal Oak. New Ferndale Dog Day Care Aims to be 'Community Center' for Dogs

Canine to Five pet care facility is officially opening at 2141 Hilton on Monday, Jan. 28.

Ferndale's new dog day care Canine to Five officially opens its doors next week and is looking to be "more than just a daycare facility." The business, located at 2141 Hilton, had its soft opening this week and is having its official grand opening on Monday, Jan. 28. Canine to Five offers day care services for dogs and is planning to also offer overnight boarding by March. This is the second location for the business, which also has a location in Midtown Detroit. Founder and owner Liz Blondy said the Ferndale location has been receiving "an abundance of calls" in advance of the opening. "We are thrilled to see a demand for our service in the Ferndale market and cannot wait to introduce our award-winning business to new dogs," she said. …

A new Ferndale restaurant is in the works that aims to offer a unique and fresh dining experience in an open, family-friendly environment. Ferndale City Council approved a redevelopment liquor license Monday night for Ferndale Public House, a new restaurant being planned at 241 W. Nine Mile Road. It will be located in the former space of Josephine's Creperie and Bistro, which has been closed since January 2011. Ferndale Public House is being opened by the owners of Woodward Imperial, a new taco bar that opened earlier this year. Local Kitchen and Bar Now Open in Downtown Ferndale

The new casual restaurant at 344 W. Nine Mile Road opened Saturday.

Downtown Ferndale's newest restaurant opened Saturday promising "familiar food done extremely well." Local Kitchen and Bar has been taking shape over the past several months in the former Via Nove location at 344 W. Nine Mile Road. Rick Halberg, the owner and chef for Local, said on Friday he feels "fantastic" to be ready to open. "We're really excited to see what the community response is," said Halberg, who previously owned the upscale Emily's restaurant in Northville, which closed in December. "We feel really good about what we're offering, the place came out great and we're thrilled to get open." Found Sound opened last weekend in Ferndale in the former Mother Fletchers location at 234 W. Nine Mile. The new record store offers a large selection of new and used vinyl records, along with some CDs, DVDs, cassettes and more. "The vinyl is our focus," said store manager Chris Butterfield. Many of the records at Found Sound were salvaged from the remaining stock of area record stores like Car City Records and Record Time which have closed, Butterfield said. New Record Store Opens Today in Downtown Ferndale

A new record store is opening today at the former Mother Fletchers location at 234 W. Nine Mile. Found Sound will offer a large selection of new and used vinyl records, along with some CDs, DVDs, cassettes and more. "The vinyl is our focus," said store manager Chris Butterfield. Saturday's grand opening will include a film screening for David Byrne's True Stories at 5 p.m. and live music starting at 9 p.m. Butterfield said the location is ideal for the new store. "The space is just like amazing, it's a perfect layout for a record store," he said. "I don't think there is a better place to open a store like this in Metro Detroit."
