Another round of personal picks presented for your consideration of recreational/enlightening engagement by the staff at the Ferndale Library. This week, Head of Reference Ed Burns offers up some favorite movies from his youth.

In addition to purchasing DVDs for the library, he also selects books for our non-fiction section. All this and he manages the Reference Department and can often be seen helping patrons with computer and reference questions. Let's hear what great movie picks Ed has for us this week! Let's see if the favorite among readers winds up with the top Academy Award.
Favorite film opinions are as diverse as moviegoers, and this week is an ideal time to share your choice for which nominee deserves the Best Picture statue this weekend. We're interested in taste, not predictions. So click the movie you think should win, not necessarily which will snag the final Academy Award presented Sunday night. The Oscars show, hosted by Bill Crystal for a ninth time, starts at 8:30 p.m. on ABC after 90 minutes of red carpet arrival scenes outside the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. By 11:30 p.m. or so, optimistically speaking, we'll see whether the favorite film among Michigan Patch readers also is the industry's choice. In the meantime, you're invited to talk about these nine movies and others from 2011 in the …
