The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans.

There's no doubt that Ferndale students know how to support their sports teams. But, does Ferndale have the best fan section around?  Now you've got a chance to prove it. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. To enter, follow these rules: The MHSAA Student Advisory Council will choose five finalists. MHSAA officials will visit each school on a Friday game night to see the fan section in person. The winner will be announced on Feb. 22 and will be invited to the Class B Boys Basketball Semifinals at the Breslin Center on March 22 to be recognized and receive a championship banner. Ferndale Wrestler Chevez Farris is Second Best in State

Farris loses in final Division 2 bout against St. Johns' Taylor Massa, a four-time state champion who has never lost a bout in four years of high school wrestling.

AUBURN HILLS – Chevez Farris came up short of winning a state wrestling title on Saturday, but walked away with second place and the knowledge that the wrestler who beat him is among the best the state has ever seen. Farris was pinned in the final round of the 171-pound weight class by Taylor Massa, one of only 15 wrestlers to earn state titles four years in a row. Massa also is undefeated in four years of high school wrestling. In the semifinals on Friday at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Farris beat Brett Dempsey of Mattawan 10-6 by decision. Victory over Dempsey Friday puts Farris right where he wants to be: wrestling for a state title.

Chevez Farris beat Brett Dempsey of Mattawan 10-6 by decision Friday night in the semifinal match, earning a chance to wrestle for the state title Saturday at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Farris won his quarterfinals match earlier Friday in a 5-3 decision over Lapeer West junior C.J. Melton. The individual wrestling state finals kicked off on Thursday afternoon at The Palace of Auburn Hills with hundreds of wrestlers from around the state hitting the mat. Farris started the tournament off on the right foot Thursday with a 16-1 technical fall in the third round of the 171-pound bracket over St. Joseph senior Mike Gould. Farris "hungry" for a Division 2 state title this season in the 171-pound division at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ferndale High School senior Chevez Farris won his quarterfinals match in a 5-3 decision over Lapeer West junior C.J. Melton today at the wrestling state finals. Farris will compete in the semifinals after 7 p.m. tonight in the 171-pound bracket against Brett Dempsey of Mattawan. The individual wrestling state finals kicked off on Thursday afternoon at The Palace of Auburn Hills with hundreds of wrestlers from around the state hitting the mat. There wasn’t a whole lot of middle ground for Oakland County teams in the first round of the high school football playoffs. Local teams either lost big or battled it out until the final seconds. OAA Sideline Report: Football, Week 9: Teams Headed to Postseason

The Oakland Activities Association will be well represented when the playoffs kick off Friday.

The book is closed on the 2011 Oakland Activities Association high school football regular season. Division titles came down to the final week in the OAA Blue and OAA Red. Birmingham Groves earned a share of the Blue title with its win Friday over Birmingham Seaholm. The Groves Falcons and North Farmington each had 6-2 records in the Blue. Lake Orion had a chance to shut out Clarkston from a share of the Red title when the schools faced each other Friday, but the Lake Orion Dragons couldn’t get it done. They allowed the Wolves to come back in the fourth quarter and ended up losing 38-31. The teams shared the Red title with 6-1 records.  Farmington Hills Harrison clinched the OAA White title three weeks ago with a win over Rochester Adams. …
