It was a busy day at the Kulick Community Center on Saturday as families came to enjoy breakfast or lunch with Santa and many enjoyed holiday shopping at the 21st annual Holiday Show Place arts and crafts show. Forget the mall - Santa Claus is coming to Ferndale. You'll find him at the Kulick Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 1 for Breakfast or Lunch with Santa. Breakfast is offered from 9:30-11 a.m. and lunch is from 11:30-1 p.m. The fee for breakfast or lunch is $8 per child and $4 per adult. Pre-registration is required, so be sure to sign up at the Kulick Center during regular business hours Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or online at www.ferndalerecreation.org. PlayAway classes start next week in Ferndale.
As the mother of two young boys, Evelyn Moses knows all about how important it is to find fun, engaging activities for her kids. In addition to frequently taking her boys to Romp and Stomp at the Kulick Community Center, the local mom also found out about a place in Royal Oak called PlayAway, offering play-based classes for children focusing on art, music, cooking and more. She liked it so much she wanted to get involved in teaching classes there, but as it turned out, the business was for sale. She and her husband decided to buy PlayAway, and now - a year later - they are opening a new location in Ferndale. Have you noticed the new sign at the community center? It's there thanks to Ferndale's senior citizen group.
The Ferndale Seniors group recently donated this new electronic sign to the Kulick Community Center. "We very much appreciate it," Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter told Ferndale Seniors president Jeannie Davis at the June 25 City Council meeting. "It's a beautiful sign." Council presented the seniors with a proclamation honoring the group at the July 9 council meeting. "The Ferndale Seniors are a credit to this community, and it is with heartfelt appreciation that we celebrate their achievement," the proclamation reads.

It's nice! Wouldn't the sign be more effective if it faced the north/south bound traffic of Livernois, instead of facing the traffic on Pearson? Perhaps that is why I haven't noticed it yet.   more ›

Blood donations are in high demand and the Gerry Kulick Community Center is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday. Head over between 12:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and join the Red Cross in its mission to maintain a safe and stable blood supply. The Ferndale City Council meets tonight.
