Earth Day Party Tonight to Feature Free Massages, Food and More

The party, which will be held from 7-11 p.m. at the Loving Touch, is part of Ferndale "Green Week."

Ferndale's fourth annual Green Week is nearing its end, but the party is just beginning tonight at The Loving Touch. Today is "Celebration Day," part of the weeklong "earth celebration" organized by the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission along with support from the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority, the local business community and other area organizations. An Earth Day party will be held from 7-11 p.m. at the Loving Touch, where free healthy food, complimentary massages and prizes will be offered, along with information from local "green" organizations. 'Local Day' Encourages Residents to Explore Ferndale Businesses

Residents are invited to spend the day discovering local businesses, and in the evening attend a seminar on "keeping it local" from 7-9 p.m. at the library.

Various community organizations will present a discussion on "keeping it local" from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Ferndale Public Library. The event was held at the Ferndale Public Library and featured stories, music and crafts focused on nature and the environment.

Several local families turned out at the Ferndale Public Library on Wednesday evening for "Youth Day," one of the many events included in city's fourth annual Green Week. The 20 or so children in attendance heard stories about nature, sang songs about recycling and decorated paper bags to use to collect trash. Treat Dreams provided ice cream. The weeklong "earth celebration" is a product of the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission's partnership with the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority, the local business community and other area organizations. Kids Invited to Story Time at Library for Ferndale 'Green Week'

The family-friendly event will feature stories focused on the environment and nature. Free ice cream will be provided by Treat Dreams in Ferndale.

What do free ice cream, a 25-mile bike ride and a discussion on butterfly gardens have in common? They're all part of Ferndale's fourth annual Green Week starting Monday. The Ferndale City Council's agenda Monday covered a wide variety of subjects. Following are highlights from the meeting: Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan CEO Lori Lamerand made a special presentation after it was announced Monday that a new clinic would open in Ferndale on April 2. She said the Ferndale location makes for the 17th location between Detroit and Benton Harbor – the only in Oakland County – and Planned Parenthood projects it will serve 69,000 clients in the next year with all the health centers.
