Ferndale Police Seek Tips in Knife Attack

The Ferndale Police Department supplied the following information.

The Ferndale Police Department seeks the public's help to identify the suspect in an April 4 knife attack, according to information released Friday. The 20-year-old victim reported that shortly after 1 a.m. April 4, as he was walking north on Woodward Avenue after getting off a bus at State Fair, the suspect, who was walking in front of him, spun around, pulled out a knife and asked if the victim was trying to rob him, according to a police report. The victim ignored the man and kept walking, but the suspect followed him and continued to yell threats, the report said. UPDATED: Carjacking Spree Hits Ferndale

Police said the suspect made several separate attempts to steal cars from their owners on Thursday before getting away with one vehicle.

9:57 p.m. Friday: "Hazel Park Police responded to a report of an armed robbery and became involved in a chase of the stolen Subaru from Ferndale. The driver of the vehicle crashed during the chase and was arrested," a Friday afternoon update from the Ferndale Police Department said. Ferndale Dine and Dash Leads to High-Speed Chase, Arrest

Officers arrested a 35-year-old Detroit man for fleeing and eluding and failure to pay his Buffalo Wild Wings bill.

Ferndale Police arrested a 35-year-old Detroit man on Tuesday after officers say he didn't pay his restaurant bill and then led police on a high-speed chase. Police received a call from Buffalo Wild Wings on Nine Mile Road on Tuesday about a customer who failed to pay for a bill, which totaled about $16, according to a news release from Ferndale Police. The caller described the person and the vehicle the man left in. Shortly after, a Ferndale officer saw the car on Eight Mile and Livernois. He and and a patrol sergeant stopped the suspect vehicle at Livernois and Pembroke, the report states. Man Maced After Parking Altercation; Brick Thrown Into Apartment

The following incidents are from recent Ferndale Police Department reports. A man was sprayed with Mace in the Western Market parking lot around 4:37 p.m. Feb. 12 after a parking altercation with another driver, according to a police report. The man who said he was sprayed told police he had backed his vehicle out of his parking space when a red truck began to back up and the driver of the red truck blew his horn at the man. The man said he got out of his car and confronted the driver in the red truck and asked him "What's your problem?" He told police the driver of the red truck then sprayed him with Mace before quickly exiting the lot. 5 Students Arrested, Administrator Injured After Fight at Ferndale Alternative High School

Police seeking warrant against additional student who left the school before police could arrest him. The fight is believed to have started as the result of students taunting each other.

Five students were arrested and police are searching for another after a fight on Thursday at Ferndale's Digital Learning Center that left one administrator injured. According to a news release from Ferndale Police, a group of students were involved in a fight in the school’s main hallway on Thursday morning. The fight, according to the release, is believed to have started as the result of students taunting each other. Administrators and staff in the school contained the fight; however it resulted in an injury to one administrator, police said. Fake Cop Arrested in Ferndale

A pair of handcuffs and a hunting knife were found in a compartment of the driver’s car door, police said.

A Southfield man was arrested in Ferndale on Wednesday after police say he falsely claimed to be a police officer. Around 12:20 p.m. Feb. 27, a Ferndale police officer made a traffic stop on Maurice Lawson, 38, of Southfield, for speeding on Eight Mile near Livernois. When the officer approached the pick-up truck, he noticed the driver wore a badge around his neck, a police report states. The badge was attached to a leather backing and chain like that used by plain clothes officers. Police said Lawson tried to convince the officer that he was a police officer for Detroit Public Schools Office of Public Safety, however he had no identification on him. UPDATE: Missing Ferndale Man Has Been Found

A Missing Person Report has been filed for Taurus Burns, who left home without his car, keys or phone, according to his wife Bethany Young Burns.

Update 12:30 p.m. Monday: Taurus Burns, of Ferndale, has been found and is safe, according to reports. 11:21 a.m.: A Ferndale woman is putting out a public call for help finding her husband, who she says has been missing since early Sunday. Bethany Young Burns says her husband, local artist and father Taurus Burns, went for a walk early Sunday morning and didn't take his phone, keys or camera. She has not heard from him since then. A Missing Person Report has been filed with the Ferndale Police Department. Ferndale Police Lt. Ferndale Police Arrest Parolee with Open Beer After High-Speed Chase

The driver was on parole for convictions including armed robbery, according to Ferndale Police.

Ferndale Police arrested a parolee on Thursday afternoon after a high-speed chase. Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a Ferndale officer attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Eight Mile Road. The driver of the speeding car pulled over onto Fair Street but sped off as the officer began to walk up to the vehicle, according to a news release from Ferndale Police. The driver then fled through residential streets, ran stop signs, and drove recklessly until driving down a dead end that ran into a hill alongside the railroad tracks, in front of 1111 E. Fireworks the Source of Loud Booms in Ferndale Sunday Night

Residents reported hearing three loud booms around 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks in Geary Park were the cause of three loud booms heard around town on Sunday night, Ferndale Police confirmed via Twitter. A resident posted on Ferndale Patch's Facebook page about the noises, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Many readers responded saying they also heard the booms. Ferndale Police posted this on their Twitter page: "A resident in the area of Geary Park reports seeing subjects ignite large, extremely loud fireworks in the park. No hazard." Ferndale Police note in a subsequent tweet that fireworks are legal Sunday, Monday and Tuesday because of the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday.
