The city does not endorse a private company that is contacting residents about an optional water line protection program.
The city of Ferndale's city manager’s office has recently been contacted by American Water Resources, a private company that offers an optional water line protection program to homeowners. The company informed the office that it will send mailings to residents that advertise and promote their water line protection services. Ferndale does not endorse the organization or the program, according to a press release the city send out Wednesday. The city manager's office encourages residents who are curious about their responsibilities as a homeowner to contact their homeowners’ insurance provider for more information. She's worked for the Ferndale city manager for the past 25 years and says she will miss the 'family' she has made. Leave a comment here to wish her well.
Shirley Ahlgrim, who has parked in the same parking spot outside of Ferndale City Hall for the past 25 years, has been the first to arrive to work and the last to leave almost every day. Ahlgrim, the longtime administrative assistant to the Ferndale city manager, had her last day of work Tuesday. Reflecting on her retirement, Ahlgrim said the hardest part is leaving behind the group of people she has worked with - “one big family,” she called them. “This is really tough, to say goodbye to the staff,” she said. “I've gone through their marriages, divorces, the births of their children …. That's what's so hard to leave – the 'family.'” Ahlgrim spent 25 years working with the city manager in Hazel Park before taking the job with Ferndale. …

I have heard that assessments are always a year behind the market value. I remember people complaining when the market was going down and their assessments were still going up.   more ›
