New Fitness Center Opens in Ferndale, Offers TV-Based Workouts

TV Fitness, located at 23440 Woodward in Ferndale, had its grand opening and ribbon-cutting on Tuesday.

Have you ever tried to do a workout video at home but didn't have enough space or the right equipment? A new business that opened Tuesday in Ferndale aims to address those issues by letting customers do workout videos in its new, modern facility in a motivating group setting. TV Fitness is located at 23440 Woodward on the east side of Woodward just south of Woodward Heights. For $30 a month, customers have unlimited access to do a variety of videos at scheduled times throughout each day. "You can come in as many times as you like," said co-owner Ryan Carruthers. Carruthers opened up the workout facility with his brother, Earl Carruthers. The brothers are both former athletes, doing track, football and other sports, and found that fitness …

Hybrid Moments To Close in Downtown Ferndale

The record shop and independent clothing store, located at 22730 Woodward Ave., announced this week that it will close up shop and go on "hiatus" at the end of February.

Hybrid Moments, a downtown Ferndale record shop and independent clothing store, announced this week that it will close its doors at the end of February. In a message on the shop's Facebook page, owner Johnny Weeks wrote that Hybrid Moments is going on hiatus and will be back for "chapter two" in the future. "I want to say thank you so much for all your love and support. Been nothing but great times!" he wrote in the announcement. "We are excited about the future and hope that you'll be by our side when the time comes for chapter two." Weeks could not be reached for comment Thursday or Friday. Husband-Wife Team Aim to Help Low-Income Residents with New Resale Shop in Ferndale

The owners of D's Treasure Chest celebrate their grand opening with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.

For Dennis and Maria Long, retirement is more of a beginning than an ending. Both newly retired – Dennis worked as a master electrician and Maria managed retiree benefits – the Detroit couple is embarking on a new adventure that officially began Tuesday at the grand opening of D's Treasure Chest at 825 W. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale. Dennis Long said his wife has long wanted to open a business of her own. "I guess you could say it's like a new beginning," he said. D's Treasure Chest sells gently used clothing for women and children, as well as children's items such as strollers and other baby gear.
