We're hosting three exciting and insightful presentations in our community room at the Ferndale Public Library over the next two weeks - from rollickin' rock and boogieable blues to a joke-dotted yet thought-provoking discussion on patternism in abstract art (augmented by a light show!). We'll also look a hundred years (or more) back to earlier days in Ferndale with this presentation from Garry Andrews-Taylor, president of the Ferndale Historical Society: President Andrews' attendance-to and upkeep-of the Ferndale Museum has certainly ameliorated its standing as of late to a modest but vital institution of preservation. His presentation gives library patrons a peak inside at some artifacts encompassing the one-time lay of the land and the …

Ferndale Blues Fest Saw 'Large Jump' in Funds Raised This Year, Co-Chair Says

Craig Covey, co-chair of the annual festival, said this year's Rockin' Blues Rib Burn-Off tent alone was record-breaking with more than 1,000 people in attendance.

It was a proud moment for Dean Bach as he took in the scene around him Saturday inside the Rockin' Blues tent set up outside his restaurant, Dino's Lounge, as part of the annual Ferndale Blues & Music Festival. The Rib Burn-Off drew a record-breaking crowd of about 1,000 guests and brought in $11,637 for the two charities the Blues Fest supports — double what the tent normally raises. “I just sat there at the end of the night, looking around, going 'Wow,' ” he said. “With a couple tears coming down my eyes, for sure.” All of the ribs were eaten (1,200-1,500 pounds), and every drink and side dish was devoured. Bach said great weather, a social media campaign and plenty of buzz about the event contributed to its success. “It was the perfect …
