Need Work? Southeast Michigan Job Fair Coming to OU This Month

Organizers of Oakland Job Hub 2012 are predicting 80 companies seeking engineers and other professionals will take part in massive employment event.

Get your suit and tie and resume ready. More than 30 companies have signed on to be part of the second annual Oakland Job Hub, planned for Feb. 23 at Oakland University. Last year, the event attracted 1,500 job seekers and 78 companies. Organizers are hoping for 80 companies this year, and they stress that in order to take part in the event, companies must have immediate full-time openings in southeast Michigan. So these jobs are for real. The cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills, along with the university, are sponsors for the event. Maureen Gentry, who works for the city of Rochester Hills, is an organizer of the event. UPDATE: Governor Calls for Road Fixes, School Changes, Combined Local Services

In his 2012 State of the State speech, Snyder also proposes rapid bus lines for Metro Detroit commuters.

Gov. Rick Snyder spoke Wednesday night of upgrading Michigan roads, starting a Metro Detroit regional transit authority and helping cities and townships combine services. Those are among the second-year policy priorities for "the reinvention of Michigan" he pushed during a one-hour State of the State address to legislators and a statewide broadcast audience. "We cannot afford to slow down," he declared. Focusing on roads, Snyder urged the Legislature to start work on a 13-bill road package introduced last year and hold hearings about how to keep Michigan's aging roads from getting progressively worse.
