Photos: Bike Night in Downtown Ferndale

The city's first on-street bike parking rack, which accommodates 14 bikes in the space of one parking spot, was revealed last Thursday night during Bike Night.

Downtown Ferndale hosted Bike Night last Thursday, which featured the reveal of the city's first on-street bike parking rack. The bike rack was created by local sculptor Richard Gage and accommodates 14 bikes in the space of one parking spot. It's the first of six on-street racks the DDA plans to install throughout the district. The Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop offered free bike safety checks, and residents could apply for a bike license with the Ferndale Police Auxiliary. Chris Hughes, communications manager for the Ferndale DDA, said it was a great night for downtown Ferndale for many reasons - including seeing the first on-street bike rack finally be put in place, to the public art aspect and the community partners like Western Market …

A Look Inside the Soon-to-Open Woodward Imperial in Ferndale

Managing partner Jeff King said Ferndale is the ideal spot for new California-style taco bar.

Plans to open a new California-style taco bar in the location of the now-closed Post Bar can move forward after Ferndale City Council approved a liquor license for the new establishment on Monday night. The Woodward Imperial at 22828 Woodward Ave. is nearly finished inside and out, with extensive renovations including garage-style doors that will allow an indoor/outdoor feel in the warmer months and an open, minimalist, crisp wood look. Jeff King, managing partner of Woodward Imperial, said the restaurant will be unlike anything else in the area and offer a unique dining experience. He said several cities were considered for the establishment but Ferndale was the top choice. "We have a strong interest in Ferndale," he said. "This was our …

The owners of D's Treasure Chest celebrate their grand opening with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.

For Dennis and Maria Long, retirement is more of a beginning than an ending. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale. Dennis Long said his wife has long wanted to open a business of her own. "I guess you could say it's like a new beginning," he said.
