Flights at community events and the 2013 Thunderbirds' season have been canceled, according to the U.S. Air Force.
Detroit Tigers fans can keep their eyes on the field Friday during opening day. That's because Selfridge Air National Guard Base will not be participating this year in the annual flyover at Comerica Park. Potential federal sequester cuts have not only affected the beloved baseball flyover, they have also grounded goodwill flights during community events, including parades, trade shows, F-22 demonstration flights and more for the remainder of the 2013 fiscal year, according to the U.S. Air Force. Jimmy Buffett's bandmate Mac McAnally played a benefit concert Thursday at Dino's Lounge in Ferndale for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Dino's Lounge in Ferndale hosted an intimate fundraising concert Thursday with Mac McAnally for the Wounded Warrior Project. This was the third year McAnally, who plays with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band and has written some of the performer's songs, has headlined the benefit. "It's a party with a purpose," said David Williams, who helped organize the event. An estimated $40,000 has been raised from the concerts for the charity, which supports injured members of the military returning from active duty and helps them heal both "physically and mentally," according to the Wounded Warrior Project website. MDOT is helping Tigers fans headed downtown for Games 3 and 4 plan ahead by posting major lane closures and restrictions on its website.
All roads lead to Comerica Park tonight as the Tigers host the New York Yankees once again in Game 4 of the American League Division Series. A 5-3 victory in Game 2 tied the teams at 1-1, and a narrow 5-4 win Monday night gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead over the Yankees. It could all end tonight with a win by Detroit, but another tie could result in a fifth game in New York. But that's getting a little ahead of ourselves. To help fans headed downtown for Game 4, the Michigan Department of Transportation is posting major lane closures and restrictions on its website.
