Go Comedy! Launches 3rd Annual Improv Tournament Today

Battle rounds will be held for 16 weeks, culminating with a grand-prize winner and the kickoff of Detroit's largest improv showcase.

Go Comedy! Improv Theatre in Ferndale is kicking off its third annual Bailout Improv Tournament Spectacular, featuring improv teams going head-to-head each Wednesday night for the next 16 weeks — and the madness begins today. Each team has just 22 minutes to show off their best skills to try to win the audience’s vote in order to advance to the next round. Eventually two teams will make it to the grand finale tournament that leads to a $1002 cash prize. Teams from all across Metro Detroit will compete at 8 p.m. each Wednesday, today through Aug. 8, in a single-elimination tourney. DDA: Audio Tours, Trick-or-Treating, Entrepreneurs Coming to Downtown Ferndale

During the Downtown Development Authority's presentation to City Council on Monday night, Communications Manager Chris Hughes discussed several new things coming to or happening in Ferndale.

Audio tours, a new partnership and trick-or-treating downtown are just a few things Ferndale Downtown Development Authority's Communications Manager Chris Hughes discussed during her presentation to City Council on Monday night. FernNet and IGNITE join forces for a evening of entrepreneurs at Go Comedy! Improv Theater at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. FernNet is a networking group for downtown businesses, which is open to everyone, and IGNITE is a forum for those who are starting or growing their businesses in downtown Ferndale. Comedian Brian Posehn Still Laughs at Fart and Wiener Jokes

The actor/comedian best known for his roles in 'Mr. Show' and 'The Sarah Silverman Program,' comes to Ferndale for the first time and performs two shows Saturday.

Fart and wiener jokes may reek of immaturity, but comedian Brian Posehn’s wittiness toward his material has always created a more sophisticated appeal to what could be deemed childish. Posehn, who comes to the Magic Bag on Saturday, has held roles in numerous sitcoms and movies including Just Shoot Me, Friends and Seinfeld, and on HBO’s Mr. Show, a sketch comedy show featuring up-and-coming comedians during the 1990’s. “That show (Mr. Show) really made me laugh when we were doing it,” said Posehn, who was featured on 28 episodes and was a contributing writer.  “It was like, you know, this is something for everybody.” Although the Magic Bag will be his first appearance in Ferndale, he’s no stranger to Michigan.
