Candidates running for a seat on Ferndale's school board recently participated in a candidate forum hosted by Citizens for a Fair Ferndale. Eight people are running in the Nov. 6 election to fill four seats on the Ferndale Board of Education. Last week, all eight candidates participated in their first candidate forum at Ferndale City Hall, hosted by the League of Women Voters. Two more forums are planned Oct. 28 and Oct. 29. The League of Women Voters Oakland Area and Patch will co-sponsor a candidate forum for the 9th Congressional district on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Madison Heights City Hall. The forum will feature the two candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, Democrat Sander Levin and Republican Don Volaric. The 9th Congressional district covers parts of southern Macomb and Oakland counties. Madison Heights City Hall is located at 300 W. 13 Mile Rd. Oakland County Commission candidates seeking to represent the new 18th district faced off Thursday night at Ferndale City Hall during a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. Republican candidate Steven Zimberg of Huntington Woods and Democrats Craig Covey of Ferndale and Helaine Zack of Huntington Woods answered questions on budgets, priorities and more during the forum. The public is introduced to mayoral and City Council candidates as they state their positions on various hot-button issues.
In a voters forum Monday evening at Ferndale City Hall, five candidates were introduced to the public — two running for mayor and three for City Council. The forum, hosted by the League of Women Voters, allowed the candidates to answer questions asked by the audience as openly and honestly as possible in timed segments. During the opening remarks portion of the forum, the candidates were given 90 seconds each to introduce themselves and state why they chose to run. Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter, who was appointed to the position early this year, is seeking election to retain the seat for a two-year term. Mark, you missed the big dichotomy. When asked about code enforcement for chicken coups all the candidates basically agreed code enforcement, by their own admission, had plenty capacity to handle any potential poultry-pet issues.
