CLEAR to Host Open Meetings Act Event

Eleanor “Coco” Siewert, an expert in the Open Meetings Act and parliamentary procedure, will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Ferndale Public Library.

The Open Meetings Act will be the topic of an event next week hosted by local political action committee CLEAR. The event, held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 at the Ferndale Public Library, will feature speaker Eleanor “Coco”  Siewert. "Ms. Siewert is a renowned expert in parlimentary procedure and the Open Meetings Act," said CLEAR member Robin Hanks. "The presentation is open to all and should be helpful to anyone interested in learning more about how to properly run a welcoming meeting." Siewert will speak about meeting procedures and transparency, which has been a focus of CLEAR since the group was formed earlier this year. Ferndale School Board Candidates Endorsed by CLEAR

The political action committee is supporting Amy Butters, Jim O’Donnell, Raylon Leaks-May and Kevin Deegan-Krause for the Nov. 6 school board election.

Ferndale political action committee CLEAR recently announced its endorsement of four candidates for the Ferndale Schools Board of Education election on Nov. 6. The group is supporting Amy Butters, Jim O’Donnell, Raylon Leaks-May and Kevin Deegan-Krause. Kate Baker, a CLEAR founding member and former Ferndale City Council member, called the candidates "one powerful group of diverse community leaders." "As a group, CLEAR is looking to back school board members who enthusiastically support our schools, yet aren’t afraid to ask tough questions of administration," Baker said in a press release. You think so? I think that if a school board candidate is to run for such a position, they should at least have their own personal house in order. Having unkempt children and letting them run amuck makes me raise MY eyebrows.   more ›

Focus is on Ferndale Schools at CLEAR Kickoff Meeting

About 50 people eager to get to work attended the new political action committee's first gathering Wednesday.

Residents at the kick-off meeting for CLEAR, a new political action committee that aims to serve as a voice for Ferndale Public Schools stakeholders, were eager to talk about concerns such as the district's lottery system for elementary schools, the Taft Education Center and families choosing other districts. CLEAR aims to foster "a culture of accountability and responsiveness" in the Ferndale Public Schools administration and school board. About 50 people attended its kickoff meeting Wednesday night at the Ferndale Public Library, where the group's mission, vision and purpose were discussed. A group of parents and area residents recently announced the formation of CLEAR – a political action committee that aims to foster "a culture of accountability and responsiveness" in the Ferndale Public Schools administration and school board. The group will host its first community meeting at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Ferndale Public Library, where the group's mission, vision and purpose will be discussed.
