Customers say Hilton Cleaners closed with their clothing inside, Channel 7 WYXZ reports.

Hilton Cleaners at 3251 Hilton in Ferndale has reportedly closed for business but may still have some customers' clothing, according to a recent story on Channel 7 - WXYZ. A customer contacted the news station after trying to go pick up $500 worth of clothing he had dropped off there last month, but when he returned the doors were locked. A sign on the business indicates that office furniture and other items were seized because of a delinquent county tax bill, according to the article. VIDEO: AJ's Cafe Says Goodbye to Ferndale

Owner A.J. O'Neil says he's proud of his coffee shop's role as the "living room of Ferndale" and says the spirit of the shop will live on.

AJ's Music Cafe closed its doors for the last time Saturday night after several days of celebrating the downtown coffee shop that made headlines over the past five years for its record-breaking Assembly Line concerts supporting America's auto industry. Owner A.J. O'Neil said running the cafe, which many called the "living room of Ferndale," became unaffordable but that he will continue to sell his coffee online at www.ajscoffeeworks.com. "These coffee shops are integral parts of people's communities," O'Neil said. Steve Brook, a musician who was involved in the shop's second Assembly Line concert, said there will be a "void" in the community with the cafe's closing. "It's a loss for the community as well as some of the people who have come…

AJ's Brought 'Special Vibe' to Ferndale, Say Artists, Customers Sad to See it Close

Since the owner of the music cafe announced he'll close his doors in March, calls and good wishes have flowed in. It's all very kind, AJ O'Neil says, but 'I'm exhausted' and it's time to go.

Customers and supporters of AJ's Music Cafe registered their sadness, appreciation and good wishes after hearing of the cafe's tentative plans to close on March 31, but the artsy coffee house owner says he's "exhausted" and it's time to move on. “AJ has brought his own special vibe with his Assembly Line concert and his clear-cut desire to help the working man,” Ferndale Downtown Development Authority communications manager Chris Hughes said Wednesday. “He's been a wonderful asset to downtown Ferndale and he certainly did help put Ferndale on the map in many ways.” Despite the name AJ's has made for itself in the community with its fundraising events, initiatives to support local autoworkers and its world-record-breaking longest concert …

AJ's Music Cafe Plans to Close at End of March

AJ O'Neil, owner of the downtown Ferndale coffee shop that brings in local artists, says he can't keep up with rising costs.

The Ferndale music cafe that has been in the spotlight over the past five years for its support of local artists, initiatives to support local autoworkers and its recent longest-concert-ever event, tentatively plans to close its doors at the end of March. AJ's Music Cafe has been a popular spot downtown to stop in to hear a local musician sing or hear poetry readings, for college students to study and local artists to hang their work. But owner AJ O'Neil says he can't keep up with rising costs as business slows down. He says he is working 70-hour weeks and trying to maintain $3,100 rent on income of around $250 a week the past four years. “And I'm not complaining. I'm just saying I can't keep doing that. I'm real proud of what we've done …

I always thought it cool that there was a place like AJ's for the arts and music. I even took part in it a couple of times. But by the lack of any type of real effort to get any attention for its business, I assumed that it had a way of doing very well for itself business-wise. I see I was wrong about that. But I dont think it was because of any political affiliation he has that the business was …   more ›
