Oakland County to Host Teen Suicide Forum Monday

The evening will include a panel of local experts at Birmingham's Holy Name Catholic Church.

Oakland County residents are invited to attend an informative community discussion about teen suicide Monday in Birmingham. A panel of experts from the Rose Hill Center, Common Ground, Oakland County Health Department and the Oakland County Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force will discuss the signs, symptoms and other risk factors of suicide. The panel will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church, in the parish hall, in Birmingham. The panel is free and, according to organizers, open to all county residents but is especially appropriate for parents and students in junior high and high school. Berkley Girls Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller Over Ferndale

The Bears score 10-straight points in the final minute of extra time to send the Eagles home with a loss Tuesday night.

It was a wild start to 2012 on Tuesday night at Berkley High School, where the Bears and Ferndale girls varsity basketball teams kept fans on the edge of their seats in a key Oakland Activities Association Blue division game. Eagles point guard Micaela Ellis forced overtime, hitting a 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds to go in regulation. Her shot completed a 13-point fourth quarter comeback for Ferndale. But it was the Bears (2-4; 2-3 OAA Blue) that would have the last laugh. Berkley scored 10-straight points in the final minute of overtime to win 51-48. “That minute wind we had, my mind is blown,” Berkley forward Aarica McCray said, smiling. “It was shocking.” It was McCray who scored the key basket down the stretch.
