Huntington Woods Bank Robbery Suspect Charged

John Jones, 47, of Royal Oak Township is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond.

The suspect in a Sept. 10 robbery at Chase Bank in Huntington Woods who was shot in Pleasant Ridge after fleeing the robbery scene was arraigned Wednesday. The man is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond, Huntington Woods Public Safety Director Steve Fairman said. John Jones of Royal Oak Township was charged in 45th District Court in Oak Park via video arraignment from the jail, The Daily Tribune reported. Judge David Gubow ordered Jones jailed without bond, according to the report. 911 Caller Had Hunch About Bank Robbery

The Huntington Woods resident watched the suspect, who was wearing a knit cap and white gloves, enter the building and exit carrying bundled money, with bills blowing away in the breeze, public safety officials says.

The 911 caller who tipped off the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department to a robbery Monday at Chase Bank followed his instincts after he saw a suspicious-looking man enter the building, an official said. The tipster, a Huntington Woods resident, was in the bank parking lot when he noticed a man wearing a knit cap and white gloves go into the building, Lt. Ron Livingston said Tuesday. "It looked really hinky because it was a nice day," he said. So, the caller decided to wait and see what happened, Livingston said. A short time later, he observed the man exit the bank carrying bundled money, with bills blowing away in the breeze, Livingston said. Huntington Woods Bank Robbery Suspect Has Long Criminal History

The 47-year-old Detroit resident is being held on a parole violation from a previous armed robbery conviction and will be arraigned on a two-count felony warrant for bank robbery and fleeing and eluding, a Public Safety official says.

The man suspected of robbing a Chase Bank in Huntington Woods on Monday has a long criminal history, a Public Safety official said Tuesday. The 47-year-old Detroit resident, who was shot in Pleasant Ridge after fleeing the robbery scene, was in critical condition Tuesday at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak but is expected to recover, Huntington Woods Public Safety Lt. Ron Livingston said. The man is being held on a parole violation stemming from a previous armed robbery conviction, Livingston said. The suspect will be arraigned on a two-count felony warrant for bank robbery and fleeing and eluding when his condition improves, Livingston said. Police Shoot Bank Robbery Suspect in Pleasant Ridge After Chase

The suspect was wounded after fleeing a robbery at Chase Bank in Huntington Woods on Monday morning, police said.

A suspect was wounded Monday morning in Pleasant Ridge after fleeing a robbery at the Chase Bank on Woodward Avenue in Huntington Woods. A 911 caller tipped off the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department to the robbery and provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, Lt. Ron Livingston said Monday afternoon. The branch was robbed just after 10 a.m., according to Royal Oak Police Interim Chief Corrigan O'Donohue, whose department assisted during the incident. Officers caught up with the suspect as he fled southbound on Woodward Avenue before jumping out of his car and running into a Pleasant Ridge neighborhood, Livingston said. Man Robs Bank for Second Time, Ferndale Police Say

The man, who is also suspected of robbing a Ferndale CVS store in November, got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from a Huntington Bank branch Tuesday.

The man who robbed Huntington Bank in Ferndale on Jan. 13 and is suspected of another robbery in the area robbed Huntington Bank again around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said Wednesday morning. The man presented the teller with a note demanding money and implied he had a gun. “The teller gave the man some cash and he left through the back door into the Withington parking lot,” Ferndale Police Lt. Bill Wilson wrote in a statement about the incident. He was wearing a tan sweatshirt – not the jacket with a Super Bowl Millennium emblem that he was wearing in the other two robberies. “He changed apparel for the latest robbery,” Wilson wrote. Man Who Robbed Ferndale Bank Also Attempted Theft at CVS in November, Police Say

'We're figuring he's got to be local,' Ferndale Lt. William Wilson says of Super Bowl logo-wearing suspect. 'Somebody should recognize him.'

The man wanted for last week's robbery of the Huntington Bank branch on Nine Mile Road in Ferndale also attempted to rob a CVS store in November, Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson said Wednesday. Monday, Wilson told the Daily Tribune that the November incident happened at a 7-Eleven store, but he mispoke, he said, intending to say it was the CVS store. Based on surveillance photos from both robberies, police believe the same person who robbed the Huntington Bank in Ferndale on Jan. 13 also attempted to rob the CVS at 900 W. Thief Who Got Away with Cash at Bank May Have Also Robbed in November

The man caught on tape Friday wearing a Super Bowl jacket in a bank robbery may have worn the same jacket in another crime.

Update, noon Wednesday: Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson mispoke when he said the November robbery was at 7-Eleven. He meant to say it was at a CVS store. The headline on this story has been changed to reflect that. Monday: A man caught fleeing with cash on the surveillance cameras of the Huntington Bank at 306 W. Surveillance Photos Show Suspect in Ferndale Bank Robbery on Friday

A man wearing a blue jacket with a Super Bowl Millennium label grabbed cash from Huntington Bank branch, police say.

Do you know or have you seen this man? These photos from the surveillance cameras of the Huntington Bank at 306 W. Nine Mile Rd. show a man walk in the office at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday.  A bank employee gave him cash and he fled through the back door and ran north through the parking lot, according to a press release from the Ferndale Police. The suspect is described as in his 40s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build. The suspect was wearing a a blue jacket with a Super Bowl Millennium label. Parolee Arraigned in Ferndale Bank Robbery, Suspected in 3 Others

John Lee Westpfahl faces life in prison on bank robbery charge. More charges are expected from robberies that took place on Tuesdays in Birmingham and Chesterfield Township, police said.

John Lee Westpfahl, 44, the suspect in four bank robberies that took place on Tuesdays in November and December, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Ferndale's 43rd District Court on one count of bank robbery in the Dec. 6 robbery of Ferndale's Charter One Bank. The three other robberies he is suspected in took place on Nov. 15 in Chesterfield Township and Nov. 22 and Dec. 20 in Birmingham. Westpfahl is on parole from a 2006 bank robbery conviction from Roseville, Ferndale Lt. Detective William Wilson said. Ferndale, Birmingham and Clinton Township police departments and the FBI have been working together to solve these crimes, Wilson said.
