Ferndale 2013 'Good Neighbors' Announced

Citizens for a Fair Ferndale will honor the residents at an award ceremony May 1.

Citizens for a Fair Ferndale recently announced the residents it will honor this year at its annual Good Neighbors award ceremony. Each year, Citizens for a Fair Ferndale recognizes members of the community who embody the group's mission within their everyday lives. The organization began taking nominations for the award in February. The Good Neighbors = Strong Community Awards event will be held on May 1 at Local Kitchen and Bar. This year’s recipients are as follows: The FernCare Clinic team will also be recognized as the fifth CFF "Community Partner," a special award that goes to a person, business, or group selected by Citizens for a Fair Ferndale due to a particular connection with the group and for their special role in the community…

Ferndale CEO Wins Entrepreneur Award

Jake Sigal, founder and CEO of Livio Radio in Ferndale, was recently recognized at Automation Alley's 12th Annual Awards Gala.

Jake Sigal, founder and CEO of Livio Radio in Ferndale, was recently named Entrepreneur of the Year by Automation Alley. Automation Alley, Michigan’s largest technology business association, announced the winners of its 12th Annual Awards Gala at the GM Heritage Center on Sept. 28. The annual awards ceremony is one of the region’s most prestigious events honoring technology organizations and their leaders. The event was reserved for affirming the accomplishments, success stories and continued growth of the individuals and groups ushering the region toward a bright technology future. Ferndale Schools Staff Recognized at End-of-Year Event

Retiring staff members were also honored during the district's annual recognition celebration.

It was an afternoon of giving thanks on Friday as Ferndale Schools staff - from bus drivers and paraprofessionals to teachers and administrators - were honored as part of the district's annual staff recognition celebration. Held on the last day of school in the Ferndale High School auditorium, the event included honors for the district's Teachers of the Year and Employees of the Year, retiring teachers and staff, and three students who received the Future Teacher Scholarship. Special videos were also played to give thanks to retiring administrators Herb Ivory, principal of Ferndale High School, and Gary Sophiea, director of operations for Ferndale Schools. Ferndale Teacher Awarded Free Lease from Suburban Collection

Ferndale Middle School teacher Derek Adams was chosen in a random drawing among the three district teachers of the year, who were honored Friday as part of the annual staff recognition celebration.

As staff were being honored on Friday afternoon as part of the district's annual recognition ceremony in the Ferndale High School auditorium, a special surprise was in the works for one lucky teacher. Suburban Buick GMC of Ferndale announced at the ceremony that they would randomly draw a name among the three District Teachers of the Year and award that teacher with a free one-year auto lease. Derek Adams, a Spanish teacher at Ferndale Middle School, was the teacher chosen. "It's an amazing thing that they are honoring the district and district teachers," he said. "I feel very honored."
