The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. It's the most wonderful time of the year for college football fans: Bowl season! The 2012 Division I Football Bowl Subdivision bowl game schedule has been under way since Dec. 15, when Arizona edged Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl and Utah State routed Toledo in the Potato Bowl. Thirty-three games remain on tap through the Jan. 7 National Championship between Notre Dame and Alabama. The gridiron action resumes tonight, however, when San Diego State faces Brigham Young University at 8 p.m. on ESPN. Michigan schools are well-represented in this year's bowl game schedule, too. Tigers gear flies off store shelves, outsells World Series opponent's wares.
The Detroit Tigers return home this weekend for Game 3 of the World Series down 0-2 against the San Francisco Giants, but the team's merchandise sales continue to ride a hot streak. The Tigers are No. 2 in Major League Baseball in merchandise sales, behind the New York Yankees, whom the Tigers swept in the American League Championship Series, and just ahead of the Giants, according to the Detroit News. The sales give the Tigers an 11 percent market share of MLB merchandise sales, compared with the Yankees' 33 percent and the Giants' 7 percent, the report said.
