William (Bill) Coyne, a former Ferndale Schools superintendent and former board chairman and director of Ferndale-based Credit Union ONE, died Thursday, March 28. He was 78 years old. He is survived by his wife Gail, two married sons, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Coyne had a long and distinguished tenure from 1989-2009 as a member of Credit Union ONE's Supervisory Committee and also as Chairman of the Board. Throughout his years of volunteerism at Credit Union ONE, he also participated in many sub-committees of the Board. Coyne also had a long career with Ferndale Schools, culminating in the position of Superintendent of Ferndale Public Schools. Mahan was the public address announcer for Ferndale athletic events since 1947.
Ferndale resident Joe Mahan, known as the "Voice of the Eagles," died Tuesday at the age of 86. Mahan was a longtime supporter of Ferndale Public Schools and served as the public address announcer for Ferndale athletic events since 1947. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Mark, Peter and Tracey, and his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at Wessels and Wilk Funeral Home, 23690 Woodward in Pleasant Ridge. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22 at Wessels and Wilk. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Carl Levin of Michigan on Wednesday mourned the passing of Cassandra Woods, his longtime state staff director and a tireless advocate for the people of Michigan, after her long battle with cancer. “Cassandra Woods was one of the bravest people I’ve ever known or worked with, and we will all miss her terribly,” Levin said. “Her strength, integrity, courage and compassion inspired me and my staff, and made an incalculable difference in the lives of countless Michiganians.” Woods, 64, served at every level of Levin’s Michigan staff. Dennis Hoeppner, 72, died early Monday morning.
The community is mourning the loss of a longtime Ferndale resident known for his devotion to his wife and family, his storytelling and manners and his willingness to do "anything for anyone." Dennis Hoeppner died at his home at 5:30 a.m. Monday. He was 72. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Spaulding and Curtin Funeral Directors. More details here. The community is mourning the loss of longtime resident and former Ferndale mayor Robert Paczkowski. Robert J. "Bob" Paczkowski, who served as mayor in the '70s and lived in Ferndale for many years with his wife and family, died Sunday in Waterford at the age of 86, according to a Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Directors obituary. Paczkowski was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Kay and the loving father of Christine (Bruce) Green, Carol Marcoux (Ken Murney), Patti (Victor) Salazar, Lynne (Greg) Gagner and Kathy (David) Petoskey.
