  1. Learn about volunteer opportunities from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 17, during a free open house at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit.
  2. A How the West Was One construction briefing will be given at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority Office, 149 W. Nine Mile Road. The briefing is open to the public.
  3. The free Get Reel – Outdoor Movies series continues from 8-11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, on Vester Street near Valentine Distilling with a showing of Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark. Visit www.downtownferndale.com for more information.
  4. Shiver me timbers! Thursday, Sept. 19, is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
  5. Ferndale Game Day will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Ferndale Public Library. Local enthusiasts will be on hand to teach new board and card games during this free, drop-in event.
