Ferndale Community Foundation Awards $8,000 in Grants

Ferndale Historical Society, Ferndale Public Library and Goodfellows are among the organizations chosen to benefit.

The  has awarded $8,000 in grants to a variety of community organizations.

Greg Pawlica, chair of the foundation, presented the awards along with treasurer Helen Weber, at Monday's Ferndale City Council meeting.

  • The received $1,573 for the security and preservation of historical material.
  • The was granted $2,500 for sensory and adaptive toys and materials for special needs children.
  • Ferndale Recreation received $1,627 for removable basketball rims for city parks.
  • was granted $1,400 for an anti-bullying program.
  • Ferndale Goodfellows received $900 for its holiday program, which provides gifts for children and meals for shut-ins.

"We're able to support these projects through the generous donations of residents and business owners through the (fundraising programs) we have," Pawlica said. "This work couldn't be done without an incredible board of directors," he added, recognizing the group's board members.

The to nonprofit community organizations in need of funding for special projects. Past recipients include FernCare, the Ferndale Schools Fine Arts Boosters and the Ferndale Seniors Group.
