Ferndale's Chevez Farris Wins Regional Title

Farris headed back to the state finals with win in the 171-pound finals on Saturday at Tecumseh regional.

The trophy cases at Ferndale High School are lined with tournament brackets Chevez Farris has won this season. 

It's time to add another one.  

Farris made quick work of the competition in the 171-pound weight class at the Tecumseh individual wrestling regional on Saturday.

The senior pinned his first two opponents in the first round. In the finals, he beat Monroe-Jefferson sophomore Hunter Dunn to win a regional title. The top four wrestlers from each weight class wrestle at the state finals in two weeks.

He was the Eagles only wrestler to qualify at districts last week where he won a district title.

Farris reached All-State status in Division 2 last year at The Palace, but fell short of fulfilling his goal of winning a state championship. He won the consolation bracket and finished in third. In 2010, he finished sixth.

 “Sixth to third,” Morgan said last year. “That’s an improvement, not what we really wanted, but it’s an improvement.”
