UPDATE: Chevez Farris Wrestling in State Semifinals Tonight

Farris "hungry" for a Division 2 state title this season in the 171-pound division at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

senior Chevez Farris won his quarterfinals match in a 5-3 decision over Lapeer West junior C.J. Melton today at the wrestling state finals.

Farris will compete in the semifinals after 7 p.m. tonight in the 171-pound bracket against Brett Dempsey of Mattawan.

The individual wrestling state finals kicked off on Thursday afternoon at The Palace of Auburn Hills with hundreds of wrestlers from around the state hitting the mat.

Farris started the tournament off on the right foot yesterday with a 16-1 technical fall in the third round of the 171-pound bracket over St. Joseph senior Mike Gould.

"It's just a continuation of what he did at and ," Eagles coach Charlie Morgan said.

Farris won a district and regional title on his way to The Palace. On Thursday, the senior scored two takedowns in the first round and increased his lead to 11-1 by the end of the second.

Morgan said Farris has high expectations for his third and final trip to The Palace.

"He's hungrier," Morgan said. "He has a goal in mind and he's not going to stop."

Farris wrestles Friday in Round Three against Lapeer West's C.J. Melton. Melton won his opening bout in a 3-0 decision over Zack Gnass.

The FESC is an important steward of the City’s environmental values and goals, and its membersRead More have performed valuable education programming and environmental policy support on behalf of all Ferndale residents. It was clear, however, the FESC and the city needed to revisit the mission and vision to make sure the group was focused on activities that could make the greatest impact. I worked with the FESC to brainstorm a new mission and purpose ideas with members and helped rewrite the draft ordinance in a collaborative effort with FESC and city staff. I'm happy to say we've made steady progress; last night the city manager and I met with FESC members to review the new ordinance language, and the group's renewel request will come to council on June 24th. Together, we had a great meeting and I believe FESC members are excited about the clearer alignment between FESC interests and the City’s environmental goals. Yes, it did take a bit longer than anticipated, but in the end I believe we'll have a stronger direction for FESC for years to come.
