Whiz Kid: Rhyon Eggen is a Whiz at Trombone

Before we get to this week's Whiz Kid, we'd like to set it up for you.

Each week, Ferndale Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Ferndale Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to Terry.Parris@patch.com. Enough of that, here's our first Ferndale Patch Whiz Kid:

Rhyon Eggen:

• Age: 14
• School: , eighth grade
• Accomplishment: Received the highest score at last year's Solo &  Ensemble competition. Plays in jazz band and marching band at Ferndale. He taught himself to play the piano at age 5. He is also self-taught on the drums and keyboard. Rhyon spends much of his free time practicing his musical talents.
• Key to awesomeness: Rhyon Eggen said his key to awesomeness is that he was born with musical ability, but he offers this key to success: "Work very, very hard."
