Weekend Planner: School Fundraisers, 'Titanic' Musical and More

1. Struttin' for Strings OrchSupport Fundraiser

An evening of dancing to benefit the students of the Ferndale Schools orchestra program will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday at the , 2233 Burdette Street in Ferndale. Tickets cost $30 each or $50 per couple. The event will include dance instruction in Waltz, Swing, and Salsa by Emily Rose of The Social Ballroom. 2. Banff Mountain Film Festival

The 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will screen for one night at  on Friday. The festival is in collaboration with Moosejaw stores and features the world's best footage on mountain subjects. The films range from productions created by first-time filmmakers to professional crews working with companies like the BBC and National Geographic. The screening starts at 7 p.m. and the cost is $12.50. Tickets should be purchased in advance. Call 248-645-3329 for more information.

3. 'Clean and Green Day' Garage Sale, Recycling Event

's annual Earth Week event will be held at the school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. has three components: a multi-family garage sale, an electronics/appliance recycling drop-off, and a native plant sale. JFK School, a state-certified "Green School" that is part of the Ferndale Public School district, is located at 24220 Rosewood in Oak Park. All proceeds will benefit JFK's PTA and Green School Committee. Read more about the event here.

4. Titanic - The Musical

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, Titanic - The Musical is sure to be an emotional journey. It sets sail on the Main Stage at the  in Royal Oak on Friday and is directed by Rodel Salazar. It will run April 13-15, 19-22, 26-29 and May 4-6, 2012. 5. Craig Shoemaker at the 

Winner of ABC's "Comedian of the Year," Craig Shoemaker is best known for his relatable standup and his iconic baritone-voiced character. Showmaker's latest one-hour special, The Lovemaster...Unzipped, aired on Comedy Central and the CD was on the Billboard Top 20 for six straight weeks. Shoemaker's also been seen on Showtime, and VH-1. Shows on Friday and Saturday start at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at  in Royal Oak. Tickets are $25.
