Preview: School Bond Subcommittee Meets Tonight

The group will review the last two school bonds the district issued, conduct a financial informational session and discuss bonding capacity.

Last Thursday, the mapped out what information it still needs, what the next two meetings should cover and what the subcommittee is charged with doing.

During its meeting at 6:30 tonight at the , the subcommittee will review the last two school bond issues, the ins and outs of the school bond loan fund and have a more detailed discussion about district finances.

The subcommittee will study compiled by the district's consultants and Ferndale Public Schools Director of Operations Gary Sophiea – would be included in a potential bond and how much it would cost.

"The if and when of the bond issue are the last things we will do," subcommittee member Marie Haener-Patti said.

said it's important that the public know that despite the extensive study over the next weeks of the various projects, a yes or no has yet to be made.

"We have the power to recommend yes or no," she said. "As we are studying all of the things that could go in the bond, that shouldn't be misconstrued as a yes."

The subcommittee will cover the following topics during future meetings.

Thursday:

  • Review of last two school bonds
  • Review of the school bond loan fund
  • Informational session on school finances

July 7:

  • Dissect and understand the bond projects listed

July 14:

  • Examination of district technology on the bond projects list
  • Hayes Lemmerz property
  • Review of how the district has tightened its belt

July 21:

  • Electoral climate (politics of the bond issue)

July 28:

  • Create a recommendation
