Overnight Snow Closes Ferndale Public Schools Friday

The snow is expected to continue to fall until 10 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service says.

After a night of snow that began soon after midnight, Ferndale Public Schools has closed for the day.

The district is among many in Metro Detroit to close on Friday, including nearby districts in Royal Oak, Berkley and Oak Park, according to clickondetroit.com.

A Winter Weather Advisory expires at 7 p.m. Friday after a low-pressure system moved into southeastern Michigan overnight, bringing the threat of snow with it.

While Ferndale was only forecasted to receive between two and four inches overnight, areas north of M-59 could see up to eight inches of snow, the National Weather Service says.

The snow will continue to fall until 10 a.m. with the high reaching 31 degrees today. A total daytime accumulation of one to three inches is possible.

It seems to always depend on how much the media hypes the upcoming "storm." Yesterday they made you feel like there was already a foot of snow outside before even one snowflake fell. Conversely, we might get 5 or 6 inches of snow unexpectedly, and then have no closures because the news stations didn't get to make an event out of it.

I'm so sick of the "Death by Snow" hype all the time - can't imagine that people couldn't get to school - we had more snow in the 80's and I don't remember my kids not being able to walk to school or get a ride when necessary - will these days have to be made up?
