Extreme Arctic Blast Prompts Ferndale to Close School Tuesday

A decision will be made Tuesday night on whether to keep kids at home Wednesday as extreme cold temperatures continue to punish southeast Michigan.

Ferndale Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28, due to bitterly cold wind chill temperatures forecast for southeast Michigan.

All district events scheduled have been cancelled as well, according to a notice on the school’s web site.

The Arctic cold temperatures are expected to persist through Wednesday morning. A decision will be made by early Tuesday evening on whether school will be in session Wednesday, district officials said.

Oakland County issued a statement Monday reminding residents to dress in layers if they must be outdoors, not to keep their pets outdoors for any extended periods of time, maintain vehicle gas tanks over half filled, keep emergency kits and blankets in vehicles, and ensure that cell phones are fully charged when traveling.
