5 Things to Know This Week: Senior Citizen Tax Meeting, Juniors to Take ACT Test and More

Get ready for the week ahead in Ferndale with these five things to know.

Senior tax town hall meeting Monday

State Rep. Ellen Cogen Lipton (D-Huntington Woods) will host an informative town hall meeting at 1 p.m. Monday at the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, 345 E. Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale, to answer residents' questions on the recent changes to the state tax structure. Community members can find out more about the changes, connect with resources and share their thoughts about the issues. Lipton will be joined by panelists Marie Verheyen, associate director for older adult services at OLHSA, and M.J. Hunt of the Accounting Aid Society. For more information, visit Lipton's website here.

Get ready for ACT test

Juniors in the Ferndale Public Schools will take the MME/ACT tests this week. Tests take brain power, so the school district is reminding parents to make sure their children get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast before a testing day. For more tips on helping your children prepare for the ACT, check out a recent blog post on the topic here.

Schools to host middle school transition meetings

Parents of fifth- and sixth-graders are invited to attend meetings about the transition to middle school. The meetings will be held throughout the next few months, including two meetings this week: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the PTA meeting and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the parent meeting. For more information, visit ferndaleschools.org.
