Case of the Missing Swings Solved: City Repairing, Replacing Older Ones

When Ferndale resident Marisa Prince headed over to with her 2-year-old daughter earlier this spring, she noticed that one of her daughter's favorite attractions was missing from the playground: the swings.

"We were sad to see that they're missing," said Prince, who visits the park often. "We've heard other people talk about it, too."

Prince contacted Patch for information on where the swings went, and was happy to hear the city of Ferndale is repairing swings at all of its parks.

Shaun Slocum, parks and forestry supervisor with the , said the baby/tot swings have already been repaired and put back in place and the main swings will be done as soon as possible. He had been aiming for the swings to be returned to all of the parks by April 1, but the city is still waiting for parts.

"We're still waiting for the parts to come in," he said. "They'll be up soon."

Slocum said the swings were 15 years old and needed new seats and chains.

"The seats were cracked and worn. Before we had any issues we decided to be proactive and update the equipment before anyone was hurt," he said. "Just as we repair our roads, we're repairing our parks."

Prince said she looks forward to using the new swings.

"We're looking forward to them coming back because we really like to use them," she said. "It's a popular park."
