Say What? Hits From the Ferndale City Council Meeting Monday

Just in case you missed Monday night's City Council meeting.

A few things from Monday night's Council meeting:

Ferndale Public Schools Communications Specialist Jessica Stilger presented, discussing the graduation of , and those graduating out of the alternative and adult education programs. Stilger told council that UHS graduated 98 percent of its seniors and 97 percent have been accepted to college. For the alternative and adult education programs, 38 years separated the youngest graduate from the oldest graduate.

Stilger also talked about the Ferndale Public Schools free summer meals program for any child under the age of 18. They can get a free lunch and breakfast at five locations over the summer. Dates and times vary. See the schedule below.

Ferndale Police Lt. Brian L. Czajkowski retired after 25 years of service to the department. Council unanimously passed a resolution of appreciation. Read more about Czajkowski here.

Ferndale Police Chief Tim Collins presented a Citizen Award to Brian Paterson for assisting in the apprehension of a strong-armed robbery suspect on May 30. After the suspect had pulled a gold necklace off of the victim's neck and started running, Paterson was flagged down by the victim and preceded to follow the suspect, then chase him. The suspect was arrested shortly after the robbery. Read more about the incident here.

Ferndale City Council made a proclamation of congratulations for who will be attending the Air Force Academy this fall.

Oakland County Commissioner Craig Covey spoke to council about Ferndale Pride . "Thanks everyone in the city who helped us out with Ferndale Pride," he said. "Thanks to the City Clerk, the Mayor, members of Council and staff, police and fire department. Amazed with the success."

Covey said he estimates 5,000-10,000 people participated in Ferndale Pride events June 3-5. And the events raised $9,000.

During public comment, Katie Hershberger discussed the recount of the . "The recount was very disappointing to me. ... This action cost this city $2,500 and that irks me to no end," Hershberger said. "One of the things we heard through the campaign is that (Council) needs to be careful how (Council) spends our money. ... He should have to pay the $2,500, not the City."

Tallman reminded Hershberger that by state law, Ferndale has to pay that cost of the recount.
