On the Agenda: Ferndale City Council Meeting Oct. 22

Two public hearings, the consideration of a West Nine Mile enhancement project and more on tonight's council agenda.

The Ferndale City Council will convene at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening at City Hall to hold a regular meeting. Here's a preview of a selection of agenda items the council is expected to discuss. For a full agenda, click here.

  • A public hearing will be held related to the 2012 Special Assessment Sidewalk District, which involved the replacement of about 12,753 square feet of sidewalk in the area of Eight Mile Road to Nine Mile Road, Republic to Pinecrest.
  • A public hearing will also be held on the Community Development Block Grant funds for the coming year, which are projected to be $76,222.
  • On the consent agenda, council will consider the allocation of funding to reimburse employees who participate in Weight Watchers at Work; a Proclamation for Transgender Day of Remembrance; a service contract for multispace meters and more.
  • Council members will also consider a proposed West Nine Mile enhancement project, which involves the reconstruction of West Nine Mile from Livernois to Pinecrest in the spring of 2013.

The Ferndale Downtown Development Authority has secured grant funding for street enhancements in the same area, and the city and DDA aim to work together to complete the projects in tandem. Streetscape improvements include narrowing the current five lanes of traffic to three lanes to allow for on-street parking, and improvement of pedestrian accessibility and safety standards for sidewalks and crossings.

Council will consider a variety of options for the appropriate funding mechanism for the project.
