Democratic leaders and activists from Oakland County and beyond will be gathering in Royal Oak on Tuesday, Feb. 19 to meet, greet and question candidates for Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party – current Chair Mark Brewer and challenger Lon Johnson.
“We are fortunate to have two highly-skilled, strategic and passionate candidates to serve as our Party Chair,” said Frank Houston, Chair of the Oakland County Democratic Party. “The Oakland County Democratic Party believes it is important for Democrats to hear from both candidates and make an informed decision of who is best equipped to move our Party forward as we approach a critical election in 2014.”
The Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) convention this Saturday, Feb. 23 at Cobo Hall will be the first time in recent memory that there is a competitive election for the MDP Chair position. Both Mr. Brewer and Mr. Johnson have strong support from key allies and active leaders within the Party.
The Oakland County Democratic Party (OCDP) is Michigan’s largest county Democratic Party organization. The OCDP is one of the few Party organizations and allies that have remained neutral in the Chair’s race.
Individuals in attendance will have the opportunity to submit questions. Democratic Party members may also submit questions ahead of time by posting them at the Facebook Event page for the discussion.
The event is $30 and will make you a member of the Oakland County Democratic Party. The event is free for Oakland County Democratic Party Hundred Club members. Precinct delegates may also renew their Michigan Democratic Party membership and ensure they have voting rights at this Saturday’s MDP Convention. Food will be served and there will be a cash bar.
