Get to Know Your Mayoral Candidate: Raymond Willis

Raymond Willis is one of two candidates for the open Ferndale Mayor's seat. He answers a few questions from Ferndale Patch.

Ferndale resident Raymond Willis is running against current mayor Dave Coulter for the open mayor's seat. This is Willis' first run at an elected position in Ferndale.

As part of Ferndale Patch's election coverage, we asked Willis to answer a few questions about not only the election, but also what he sees in Ferndale, what he thinks Ferndale needs and his favorite things about the city.

Ferndale Patch: What are your passions?

Raymond Willis: Driving, cooking and my family life.

Ferndale Patch: Why are you running for mayor?

Willis: Because I can and to have fun. 

Ferndale Patch: What is Ferndale's biggest challenge(s)?

Willis: Car theft, armed robbery and loss of property value.

Ferndale Patch: What is Ferndale's biggest asset(s)?

Willis: Lots of low cost housing and tons of retail and industry projects.

Ferndale Patch: What will you do/work toward if elected?

Willis: Reverse tourism -- we need to promote Ferndale better.

Ferndale Patch: What are FIVE things Ferndale needs?

Willis:

  1. Beach
  2. Own water system
  3. Hardware store
  4. Cameras on street (like Troy)
  5. Volunteer police and fire units

Ferndale Patch: What are your FIVE favorite things about Ferndale?

Willis:

  1. Downtown
  2. Eight Mile Road
  3. Woodward Avenue
  4. Interstate 75
  5. Interstate 696
