Get to Know Your Council Candidate: Mike Lennon

Councilman Mike Lennon has been on council since 2004. As part of our election coverage, the councilman answered a few questions from Ferndale Patch about himself, Ferndale and the push for another term.

Mike Lennon has served two terms on City Council, beginning in 2004. Prior to that he had spent 25 years in the Ferndale Police Department.

As part of Ferndale Patch's election coverage, we asked Lennon to answer a few questions about not only the election, but also what he sees in Ferndale, what he thinks Ferndale needs and his favorite things about the city.

Ferndale Patch: Tell Ferndale about yourself.

Mike Lennon: I am a 55-year-old lifelong resident and my family has also been here for decades. I have two children: Ryan, 26, and Tara, 25. After 25 years, I retired from the Ferndale Police department in 2002. I have served two terms as a councilman and during that time served on many boards and commissions. I am currently employed by .

Ferndale Patch: What are your passions?

Lennon: My passions are my children, serving the residents of Ferndale and of course ESPN.

Ferndale Patch: Why are you running for council again?

Lennon: I am running for a third term because I like what I do and I like Ferndale and public service is in my blood. I was always taught to give back.

Ferndale Patch: What is Ferndale's biggest challenge(s)?

Lennon: Ferndale's biggest challenges are economic stability, keeping the level of city services our residents are accustomed to and business retention.

Ferndale Patch: What is Ferndale's biggest asset(s)?

Lennon: Our assets are our city employees, downtown, and the services we provide.

Ferndale Patch: What will you do/work toward if elected?

Lennon: I will continue to work on neighborhood and park improvement, balancing budgets, the development of the Livernois and Hilton corridors and keeping city services at the optimum level.

Ferndale Patch: What are FIVE things Ferndale needs?

Lennon: Ferndale needs a parking structure, improvements in the parks -- particularly for the disabled, bringing in new industrial businesses to fill the empty building on the east side, major improvements on Eight Mile Road, and a new courthouse.

Ferndale Patch: What are your FIVE favorite things about Ferndale?

Lennon: My favorites are the citizens, the eateries, the diversity, the city services, and the overall community involvement.
